    Back from NYC
    It's been a minute huh?
NY was fantastic as usual. Great meetings. I just got over the cold I caught out there though.

I performed at UC Berkeley Sunday for the first time in a minute... I was surprised how confident I was... great crowd, great response...

Hmmm I am too busy for this journal, and I am updating my casamena blog more regularly, so I may have to consolidate, but do enjoy reading some of my friends entries ... hmmm

    Winter Music Conference
Wow. warm weather, the beautiful people, DJ's from all over the world, waaaayy too many parties.. at the airport, so ready to go home after a week of it. Big shouts to Diesel for throwing the dope rooftop party complete with live sex acts across the street!! Met so many kewl people and reconnected with many others. I was happy to see folks from the Bay also. I am quite sleepy, but also very excited about getting back home and getting back to work on the projects I have on the table. A 30 min phone conversation with Vinia Mojica, while I was stuck in downtown Miami traffic, made my day, and week. I think I like house music again.

So, I got a Powerbook... if you don't know the CASAMENA recording studio has been on Windows based technology for the last 5 years... I wanted to have a reliable portable recording studio, so here I am running Logic on a Powerbook, yikes!! I have to admit OS X rules, everthing is so simple.... wow! Still learning but, but I gotta say this is soooo cool, so far!

    Peace,
    Carlos

What a couple of weeks. So the biggest name in House and remixes asked me to remix some work for him!!
That's crazy. Well got one done (sounds pretty hot, and wrote and spit a poem for a release on Ubiquity later this year, in Spanish at that!! Hadn't written anything in months, and to write it in Spanish, what a rush. I have a couple of more tracks to remix for Osunlade and Yoruba Records. As for the new record Michael Spiro and I are exec producing you can still go to the blog page for updates on that --> http://casamena.blogspot.com

Let's see look I'll be going to the WMC in Miami in March, I've also been asked to return to Japan!!! Yippee, and I may be in Bahia, Brazil in May to record and hang.

Interesting developments shaping up for the CASAMENA label... more on that later...

What a trip. Japan was amazing. Osaka was the first stop and after running through Narita(Tokyo airport) to make our connection to Osaka.. we had a team of 6 Japanese escorts, carrying our bags and pointing the way, They parted security forces, rushed us through baggage checks, to make a flight that should have taken off five minutes earlier... WOW!! That definitely would have never happened here. We made it on to the plane, covered in sweat for the 1 hour flight. No need for the video game/movie/audio entertainment console on this flight... anyway I'd already seen all the movies twice, on the 12hour flight from NY.

We found food (delicious noodles w/chicken, $5.), and internet cafes ($2.5 for 1/2 hr) that first nite... met some of the folks in Zapp and P-Funk that nite, though they didn't warm up to us till day 2. Turns out most of them were very cool, and willing to give advice.

Imagine sitting in a bus with members of Zapp and P-Funk and an incredible gospel song session breaks out, just before we get to a small private club for an amazing after party, were the DJ has original pressings of of every significant hip-hop, funk, and jazz record. I almost fainted. Imagine being on stage with P-Funk singing "Flashlight!!!!" Imagine japanese clubs like you see in the movies, ultra-chic, and very hip. Imagine hip-hop clubs filled with japanese kids, where if you let your eyes deceive you, you'd swear you were in NYC at the Tunnel.

Tokyo blew me away, I really enjoyed going to Shibuya (area in Tokyo), it reminded me of the village in NY. We found a very cool, underground teahouse with free wireless internet access... it's definitely a place I would be found at on the daily if I lived in the area.

There is mo much to tell, but as you know I am not much for posting many details here, in fact this may be my longest post ever... I'll just say that I made friends, music connects, and definitely want to go back soon. It's nice to be back. I'll have pictures online somewhere soon.

    3rd graders are cool!
They are still innocent enough and unafraid of being silly!! I'm having a blast working with them.
I received some offical paper from the Japanese government, saying it's OK for me to enter the country, that I now take to the Japanse consulate in the morning to get my visa, yeah!!

    moldin' young minds
So I'm off to teach poetry classes this week and next. Nice little gig, it pays well, and it's third graders... oddly enough I am not a fan of the english language, but at least I am familiar with it enough to explain figurative language to third graders.. actually the lesson plans I wrote are dealing with imagination, ... never mind... I gotta eat and get outta here...

I hear I am leaving on the 24th to Japan, and that tix, cash, and contract are being fed-ex'd... we'll see.

    A cold?
I guess all the anya work left my immune system vulnerable to an attack. Teas and soups for me hooray!!Oh well, playoff Saturday in bed. Evelyn is out walking Max in my stead. Did I just say "in my stead"? yuck! I think I may make more of an effort to use my writing skills on this journal, we'll see. Although my energy is more focused on my current musical project http://casamena.blogspot.com, I think I feel a writing spurt coming on, look out!... no wait, ... sorry, just gas.

    Happy New Year
Gave an anya for my iyatobi... for those of you who don't know what that is... just know it was mad work for several weeks. On the flipside it was also a great celebration honoring Elegba so we can start the year off on the "good foot". Just now recovering... ...back to work on this new record... I am keeping a separate journal ( http://casamena.blogspot.com ) to document the entire process from beginning to end... there will also be DVD, yikes! Blessings, Carlos

    Berkeley Slam
the berkeley slam was fun... tried out some chicken scratch from my notebook...

    and a haiku for Charles:

    modern day wordsmiths
sharp tongues carve verse, splinters fly
    Berkeley Slam kills

Tim Barsky rocks...Karen has a beautiful smile... accented beauty(German I think) complimented my charisma, presence, words and connection with the crowd, I could only gaze into her beautiful eyes...and say thank you... and I'm out.
